Electronic Medical Records are coming to Lakeshore Eye Care by Dr. Martha Jay, Ophthalmologist in Mequon and Saukville, Wisconsin
Lakeshore Eye Care may be an independent group of doctors, not part of any large hospital group, but we aren’t going to be left behind in the conversion to electronic medical records. You may have seen the equipment being moved into the exam rooms at both our offices and now we are “Going Live.” That means that last week we began to convert to electronic records and will eventually be able to discard our old paper charts.
Why go through all that trouble and expense? There are many advantages to electronic medical records but the most important one is accuracy and better ability to communicate with our patients and referring doctors. No longer will our staff be struggling to decipher the handwriting of a certain doctor (could that be me?) to understand the examination results and plan. There will also be a savings in time and paper as we are able to just modify each patient’s information rather that completely rewriting it each time they come in.
But change is not easy so we ask for your understanding while we go through this transition. We may be requesting different information when you schedule and at first may be a bit slower. But we have a great staff – dedicated to learning new tasks and making our patient’s experience at Lakeshore Eye Care the best it can be. Thanks for your patience.
On another topic, Flex Spending plan deadlines are coming up so be sure to schedule your LASIK screening exam before committing funds for 2012 as not everyone is a good LASIK candidate.
