Explain what you mean by the term iLASIK?

iLASIK is a shortened way to say “Blade-free LASIK with the IntraLase and VISX Star S4 lasers.”  Now isn’t that easier?

The IntraLase and VISX companies were independent companies until a few years ago when Abbott Laboratories purchased both of them.  Now that they are owned by the same company the technology is more integrated and maintenance more streamlined.  Dr. Jay early on recognized the advantage of these superior technologies and had been utilizing both of these lasers long before the Abbott purchase.  We all appreciate the shorthand iLASIK over the longer version.

We call blade-free iLASIK “LASIK for Chickens” because of the increased safety and precision.  Compared to the older way of using a blade to generate the flap at the beginning of the procedure, blade-free iLASIK is more comfortable, visual recovery is quicker, and it’s almost impossible to have a problem in surgery.  That’s why the Navy has approved blade-free iLASIK for their “Top Gun” fighter pilots and NASA has done the same for their astronauts.  If the safety and precision is good enough for them, how about you?
